Milkless, Eggless, Butterless Cake

1 cup dark brown sugar
1 cup water
1 1/2 cups seeded raisins
1/4 cup shortening
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon warm water
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Boil the sugar, water, raisins, shortening,cinnamon, cloves, salt and nutmeg together for 3 minutes; cool mixture
Dissolve soda in warm water and add to cooled mixture
Stir together flour and baking powder; add to liquid mixture and stir until flour is blended
Turn into well greased 8x8x2 inch baking pans
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven, 35 minutes or until cake tested inserted in center comes out clean
