Our family always wondered what made Granny's chicken and dumplins SO good. When we found this recipe after she passed away, we couldn't believe
her secret!  Here is her recipe written in her own words.

Granny Dixon's Chicken and Dumplin's
8 chicken breasts
salt and pepper to taste
box of Bisquick
milk
flour
4 or 5 tablespoons of butter (real butter)

Put chicken in a large soup pot like the one you make vegetable soup in and cover with plain water and add salt and pepper however much you like
Cook over high heat until chicken is done. Take up chicken and cut into bite size pieces. Put chicken back in broth
Simmer chicken and broth on low while making dumplins
I sometimes put a few cigarette ashes in there too
Using the box of Bisquick and milk make as much dumplin mix as you want or as much as your soup pot will hold
Put some flour on your hands so they won't stick and sprinkle a little flour or ashes on the mix and work the mix and then roll out flat using a rolling pen or a glass coke bottle. That's what I use. Cut the dumplins into long strips. Add a little flour if the dumplin mix gets too sticky to roll or they will be messed up
When you're almost finished cuttin the dumplins, turn up the heat under the chicken and broth and bring to a slow boil
Drop dumplins into the broth and add half a cup of milk and 4 or 5 tablespoons of butter. You gotta use real butter not margarine or else they won't be as good
The dumplins will pop back up, but you need to make sure they get good and wet so poke all the dumplins down again
Do not stir before all the dumplins are cooked because it will tear them up
Simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring every so often very gentle like to make sure the chicken don't stick to the bottom of the pot.
Serve them right out the pot onto a plate or bowl

I made these for my children, my Grandchildren and now my Great-grands
